Purple Milkweed is native to the Northeastern United States. Its an important host plant for Monarch butterflies. Fragrant. Drought tolerant once established. The flowers give way to the typical milkweed seed pods. Slow to emerge in the spring. Spreads by underground rhizomes and will also self seed if seed pods are not removed before they split open. Plant accordingly.
