This is a showy plant that hummingbirds will go to. The flowers are a good 2 inches long and are reminiscent of Chinese lanterns. These trailing flowering maples make great container and hanging basket plants, as well as an interesting plant for the flower bed. Not hardy in most of the USA, but if kept in a pot, where they will remain smaller, they can be brought indoors during the winter. Plants grown in baskets and containers in zones 8 and 7b will need protection during the winter.
